Puppet Designer/Maker and Puppeteer
For this project, I was asked by the collaborators of Polymath Pictures, Tom Walsh and Amy Nicholson, to design and make two of the puppets for the band 'We Show Up On Radar'.
Each of the puppets were designed to represent a band member and were to appear from the forest and play their instruments alongside the main puppet who is a forest dweller. At the end of the video the main puppet is left by himself once again.
I had to work closely alongside the set designers to ensure the puppets could be manipulated within the set. We also had to find a way to camouflage three of the puppets within the set to make it look as though they were appearing out of the forest to sing along with the main puppet.
Inspiration for the puppets came from 'The Muppets' and 'The Dark Crystal' by Jim Henson.
Blue screen animation was used during the filming of this video, and I had the opportunity to puppeteer during this process. This gave me a great insight into the different types of filming and how animation and editing are a great tool when combining to video images together.
